Are you ready for some football?

Friday, August 29th, 2008

That is the question of the day, because tomorrow we will play our first games.  Provided the clouds don’t roll in and pour like faucets.  Which has happened more than once this past week. What that means for you is that, in spite of the fact that I asked if there were cities you wanted to hear about, and inspite of the fact that no one answered me, I can’t go anywhere for the next 8 weeks anyway. So HA! You have plenty of time to reconsider your silence!

Free Movies

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Did I mention that my little town was sponsoring free movies this summer? They did, right on the lawn behind Town Hall. Our family had lots of fun there this summer. Athe end of the summer, too late to take advantage of it, I found out that another area town was doing the same thing, but with different movies. We could have doubled our fun! One good thing about movies in the park is that the birds take care of any spilled popcorn, and you don’t have to worry about your home theater carpet. The good thing about free movies in the park is that we can actually afford to take the whole family!

Where shall we go?

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Let’s see, I have talked about Surf City, I have talked about Wrightsville Beach, I have discussed Fayetteville and High Point where you can get furniture like coffee tables and such. I have talked just the tiniest bit about Charlotte where we have cheer leading competition. Where else would you like to hear about? I’m up for a day trip or two!

Through whining

Monday, August 18th, 2008

I’m through whining about the weather. Just for the nonce, don’t go getting excited! But the weather has cooled just a bit, and I took a walk tonight without melting into a puddle. That means fall can’t be far behind, and it’s almost time to stock up on more micro sd cards so I can get some cool photos of the changing season. This year, I will be traveling a little bit more in the fall, so there should be plenty to see.

ZooToo

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Have you checked out ZooToo? It’s an online social community for pet lovers, where they can meet other pet lovers, organize local activities, and generally hang out with others who share their love of animals. Zootoo also makes it easy for pet lovers to help the pets who need it most by donating food to shelters. They have other ways to help pets too, just check out the Help pets page.

What makes this apply to North Carolina? Well, for one, we have the same pet problems here that everyone else has: overpopulation, lack of shelters, etc. Secondly, zootoo lets you find a local pet shelters and services, yep, even here in North Carolina. Hard to believe, huh?

And true pet lovers will enjoy the pet news, too! Listen, just go check the site out, and register. Because when you do, you not only get a chance to make new friends, but a pound of food gets donated to a pet shelter. Do it.

Road Trip!

Friday, August 8th, 2008

That’s what we’re doing this weekend. We are leaving the coast and driving across the piedmont almost to the mountains to visit my famfam. Uncles, aunts and cousins, oh my! The kids and I are crazy excited, and dh is tolerating us pretty well. It’s gonna be a low-tech weekend. He’ll have his license and medical id bracelet, I’ll have my knitting, and we’ll all have a good time, provided we can hold it together for the three hour trip!

ugh

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Still hot as blue blazes outside, and now we’ve added football practice to the mix. Happy August, ya’ll! All that dirt and sweat are sure to lead to an acne epidemic, don’t you think? Might be time to expect an increase in the water bill, too! More showers, more dirty clothes, more fun!

Differing Definitions

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

You know, when I think of tape drives, I’m dreaming like a redneck. I’m picturing a device that will aloow me to play cassettes on my computer. You know, the boxes and boxes of them in the top of my closet, with really cool old music on them?? Those ones. My husband the computer tech assures me that is NOT what they mean.

A little parody

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Wanna know how to lose weight in North Carolina these days? Step outside. Breath in and out 5 times. Count it as exercise, because it is. Unless you are a fish.

And let’s talk about fish and breathing and humidity. Do you know how humid it is? It is so humid here that the flying fish aren’t even bothering to go back in the water. They are just sailing in the sky like kites.
