Stimulus Plans

Monday, April 28th, 2008

What are you guys planning to do with your stimulus packages? I admit I am looking forward to ours. We need a new freezer pretty badly, and I want a bigger tv. And new flooring, and and, and. About the only thing not on my list is home theater sconces, though a couple of new lamps might make the cut. The IRS site says people could start seeing money as early as today!

Gotta Back off a bit

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Well, I was really hoping to be able to bring you report after report on wonderful North Carolina wines. In fact, I had seriously thought about a wine clubs because I am enjoying my taste testing so much. I have to put that on the slow track just now. I am trying to lose a pound or 20, and I just calculated up last night that wine picks a bigger calorie punch than I can “afford” just now. But that Bannerman? Divine. Simply Divine.

Joe Baldwin’s Light

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Do you guys like ghost stories? Have you ever heard the tale of Joe Baldwin’s Light? You’ll note that wiki calls it the Maco light, but I live about 15 minutes from Maco, my best friend in high school live in Maco, and around here we call it Joe Baldwin’s light. I reackon just about everybody around here knows the story, except my children. Reckon I’ll fix that the next time we go camping. You reckon ol’ Joe woulda still lost his head if he’d had led tail lights instead of that lantern?

Yesterday, I mean, about the diapers and then wine. She’s wearing the dipes just fine, and I haven’t opened the wine yet, though my cuz did tell me that the higher the alcohol content, the sweeter a wine usually is. Since I like mine sweet, I had to check and that one is 12.5%. I just love small print. I reckon I need to carry around some sort of reading magnifiers just so I can read wine labels.

Reading the internet is much simpler: I just hit ctrl + until the font is just right for me!

A local-er Vineyard

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

So, I was in our Piggly Wiggly the other day, and I found saw a wine display with local wine. And by local, I mean 45 minutes or so from here. Close enough to drive to pick up the wine. I haven’t opened it yet, because I have to finish the Bald Head Red first, but when I do open it, if it’s any good, I’ll let you know. One has to go slowly, you know, to avoid having other folks enquire about one’s need for addiction treatment. But really, how did we get so many vineyards? And how can I not try them all?

Joke’s on Her!

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Hahaha, you see those billowing clothes from yesterday? I dried the baby’s prefolds today, just like I said I was going to do. Have you ever held a prefold in your hand and had it stick straight out? Well, that’s the privilege I had this afternoon. Those things are more like wood chips than the soft mattress topper-like fluff she is used to. I just hope they soften up a bit for her.

But I’ll laugh all the same if they don’t.

A Snappish Wind

laundry on the lineLookit those clothes snap in the breeze! I do love to hang clothes out on the line, and today was the first time I’ve done it in a while, but I did have to chase a couple of pieces down and threaten them right pert.

Tomorrow, there will be prefolds where those linens were today, and I hope it’s not quite as brisk out. If it is, I don’t think even Callaway golf clubs will help the folks on the course behind my neighborhood. It’ll be “fore, fore, fore” all day long.

GonnaBe

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

You know, (or maybe you don’t, but I am going to tell you and then you will) there have been many movies and television shows filmed here in North Carolina. Patrick Swayze has been here (throb, throb), and One Tree Hill was filmed right in Wilmington, and there was another show filmed here just a couple of years ago.

I’m surprised that Gonnabe.com hasn’t opened a local office. Right now, they are helping child actors network out in Hollywood, but since we like to call our neck of the woods East L.A., I think Gonnabe.com could do just fine here, too. California doesn’t have the lock-up on cute kids, after all. I have a house full of them, as a matter of fact, and I’m sure they’d enjoy hob-knobbing with the rich and famous and successful! And, umm, me too. Just sayin’

Oh hush, you would, too!

Does it work?

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Just a little test post. After my little experience last night, I am a bit less sure of myself. Apparently, I had another problem, unrelated to the link hacking, and I was almost in tears last night trying to publish that post on the Duplin Winery. It’s there now, almost as originally written, but one phrase is missing. I could publish everything before it, and everything after it, but something in that phrase or it may have been one of the links to an individual wine was causing a massive hiccup in WP. Crazy. But coming on the heels of the other issue, I was almost ready to toss this laptop into the creek!

Bald Head Red

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

Back in January, my beloved cousin introduced me to a line of wines from a local winery. He is a member there, and gets the wine by the case. I tried several that day, and they were all very good. I was at my favorite store the other night, and I happened to notice that they had several of the wines from Duplin Winery, so I picked up some Magnolia. Then my husband picked me up some Bald Head Red. Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner. Or winners, as the case may be. Case, haha. This is good stuff, folks.

I suggest you order some, and then maybe try to find the best buy on a wine rack. Or maybe two.
