Too Hill-billy for all that

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

So I was checking out the Van Halen tour today, and I notice we’re not on it. In fact the southerest Eddie is coming is DC, which really, can hardly be called south, can it? Does he think we only listen to blue grass and steel guitar down here? Or maybe he came in the spring and I missed it. That’s possible. Musta been while I was listening to Flatt and Scruggs. And, is southerest really a word?

DrugHo Corner

Friday, October 19th, 2007

I had to take an emergency trip to the eye doctor today (don’t worry, it’s ok, I’m fine, and I get some cool pink glasses, too) and Daddy drove me (I couldn’t drive myself). Ok, the parenthesis are confusing me, and I lived to through it. Let me start more or less at the beginning.

This afternoon, I started to have some darkening in my vision, and then some weird wiggly effects, and since I only have the one set of eyes and sudden changes in vision are not exactly normal, I elected to go PRONTO to the eye doctor. I got a very thorough exam, I was having an ocular migraine, which while not common is also not life threatening, and I just need to call if I have any more so they can note it in my chart. Also, I am getting new pink glasses, which is so totally me, and if this blog were not Carolina Blue, it would be pink just like all my other blogs. NOW THEN~!!

I had Daddy drive me, because when your eyes are doing weird-and-bizarre-visual-convolutions-such-as-you-have-never-before- experienced, it kinda puts one off driving, and as we were going through our used-to-be-small town he mumbled something that sound like Drugho corner. When I asked him, he repeated himself, and that was exactly what he had said.

It’s kinda disconcerting to think that hard drugs area problem in my home town, population couple hundred. And then I stop and think that it’s no longer population couple hundred, but rather population several thousand and growing quickly, and yeah, it probably won’t be long before we need a drug treatment facility of our very own. Sigh. And to think I came back here because I didn’t want my kids growing up in a place like that.

I need memory

Friday, October 19th, 2007

This post has little to do with North Carolina, beyond the fact that my laptop sits on my desk that sits in my house that sits in my town that sits in my county that sits in my great state of North Carolina, kinda like the wart on a frog on a log in the hole in the bottom of the sea. This laptop needs memory, and I am having a hard time figuring out what kind without taking the computer apart. I’m narrowing it down though. I know I don’t need IBM memory. You’d think, being married to a computer tech, I could get a little bit further than that, right?

Panther Football

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

Admittedly, I don’t know nearly as much about Carolina Sports as my friend marcus, but no North Carolina blog would be complete without at least mentioning the Carolina Panthers. This NFL is relatively new on the scene, but they have a decent record, and my cousin like them.

Ooh, you can tell I don’t really “do” football, can’t you? I guess I better stop before I hurt myself. That would be so not pretty. But the Panthers’ next home game is the 28th against the Indianapolis Colts. Check ‘em out.

New Carolina Bloggers

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

I visited a new North Carolina blog tonight. Err, a blog written by natives, I mean. It’s not about North Carolina. Stop. Back up and let me start over.

I visited a blog tonight about valentines day gifts, and it’s written by two North Carolinians who go by Hot Chick and Clueless Guy. Now, you may think it’s a little early to talk about Val’s Day, but in truth, it’s never the wrong time for a gift, and some of the suggestions here are right on the money. Check them out now, and bookmark them for later!

PS: I’ll take the cruise if you are feeling generous and the massage chair if you are feeling the pinch.

Move it inside

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Here’s another way we tell it’s fall here: we move it inside. Since March, anything that could be done outside has been, with the exception of August when we tried not to go out at all. Now, plans are being made to move those activities are being moved indoors, especially the ones that carry on after the time change. It’s crazy to even imagine that soon we’ll be leaving for cheer leading practice in the dark, ykwim?

Beach Cruisin’

Friday, October 12th, 2007

I just posted yesterday that it was supposed to finally cool off, and it has. It feels absolutely blissful!! And now that the beaches are emptier, and the air is cooler, it’s the perfect weather for riding beach cruisers. There’s always a breeze there by the water, and in the fall the visibility is incredible. If you don’t have one, you can get one for less than $100 from xyzbikes.com. Leave that Carolina Blue number alone. It’s got my name all over it.

P.S. Yes, I know they in California. It’s ok–they ship by FedEx.

Blankets!

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

Squuuuuueeeeeeeeeeeeeee! It’s finally going to get below 50 tonight. I’ll be putting another blanket on the bed this afternoon. I am so excited!! It’s the middle of October and we finally need more than the cotton one that’s on year round. Can you tell I am ready for fall?

Interestingly enough, many of the tress have already lost their leaves. All my life, I have thought the colder weather was the signal to the trees, but I guess that’s not the case.

Get Hitched Carolina Style

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

I saw a new website today that I thought might interest ya’ll. It’s called NC Weddings, and it’s a repository of all you need to know to get married here in North Carolina, from getting a marriage license to finding a venue. This site showcases our local businesses to help you plan a perfect day. Use them for weddings, yes, but you could also use the services and businesses on this site to pamper lost of other people. Think Golden Anniversaries and Prom Night, see. You’ll find limos and bands suitable for all sorts of celebrations!

Crazy Hot!

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

It hit over 85 here yesterday. Eighty-stinkin’-five, people. On October 8th. Crazy! And still fairly grey, thanks for asking.
